STAMFORD - Arthur S. Clark, 85, of Stamford, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 30, 2020, at Fox Hospital in Oneonta, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 28, 1935, in Grand Gorge, Arthur was the son of the late Helen Proper.

Arthur graduated from Grand Gorge High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1956. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Stamford area and soon began working for the telephone company, retiring with 33 years of service in 1990 as the right-of-way manager.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was past Post Commander of the VFW.

Mr. Clark was married for 36 years to his best friend and in his final years his caretaker, Norma J. Quackenbush, in 1984.

In his younger years, Arthur was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing camping and enjoying all that nature had to offer. He liked to play softball and bowl. Arthur also enjoyed taking car rides to take in the view of the countryside.

His greatest joy was his family. He was a caring husband, loving father and proud grandfather.

Besides his wife, Arthur is survived by four children, Barbara (Dennis) Rockefeller of Delhi, Brian (Teresa) Clark of Stamford, Karen (John) Laing of Bloomville and Matthew (Dawn) Clark of Rolesville, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Carson Rockefeller, Chad Rockefeller, Nathan Rockefeller, Joanna Clark, Christopher Clark, Nicholas Laing, Jessica (Laing) Clark and Logan Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Colston and Dempsey Clark.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, at MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford. Private graveside services, with full military honors, will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge.
