Barbara A. Farrell Obituary

ONEONTA - Barbara Farrell, 92, passed away peacefully March 8, 2025, in Oneonta.

Born Sept. 9, 1932, in Binghamton, Barbara was the daughter of Robert and Helen Fink. She attended St. Paul's High School before pursuing nursing at Wilson Nursing School, where she earned RN certification.

Barbara shared a loving marriage with her late husband, George Farrell, and together they built a strong and cherished family. She is survived by her children, George Farrell, Suzanne Murphy, Christopher Farrell, Sean Farrell and his wife Mary Beth, and Kevin Farrell. She also leaves behind her siblings, Fran Alexander, Mary Dutcher, and Edward Fink.

She was predeceased by her parents; brother, John Fink; sister, Helen Nixon; daughter-in-law, Nana Farrell; and son-in-law, David Murphy.

For much of her life she did not work outside her home, but lived in service to others, leaving a lasting impact on both family and friends. As the wife of an Air Force nurse, she raised five children while moving from New York to Alabama, Illinois, Colorado, Texas, Florida, Germany and Mississippi. Her love for her family was a constant presence in their lives, building bonds that made a home of every place they lived. Somehow, each of her children knew, deep down, that they were her favorite.

A woman of deep faith, Barbara found great comfort and community in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta. Her devotion to her faith was unwavering and served as a guiding light throughout her life. She lived out her love for God in her compassion for others.

Beyond her personal and spiritual commitments, Barbara took delight in life's simple joys—a good "Get Smart" episode, gardening with gentle hands, losing herself in the pages of a good book and piecing together jigsaw and crossword puzzles with quiet determination. These small pleasures brought richness to her days.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a wake from 5 to 7 p.m. March 17 at Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. March 18 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St. Oneonta. A lunch will be served immediately following the Mass, across the street in the Parish Center.

Barbara's kindness and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing. Barbara loved flowers, or you may also honor her memory with a donation to St. Mary's Food Pantry.
