Hobart - HOBART - Barbara Hoover Stevens, 85, of Hobart, passed away late Thursday evening, Nov. 2, 2023, at Albany Medical Center, following a short illness.

Born on Jan. 10, 1938, in Peekskill, Barbara was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Irene (Witner) Hoover.

She was a 1955 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1964. Barbara also attended graduate school at University of Denver.

She went on to work for both Ryder and Hofstra universities as an admissions counselor for 20 years. Then Barbara spent 26 years as the confidential secretary for South Kortright Central School District superintendent until her retirement.

Barbara was a member of the Hobart United Methodist Church, Hobart Civic Association, and Hobart Historical Society.

She enjoyed music, especially classical music; and was an avid reader and enjoyed nature. Barbara also was a talented crafter, knitter, embroiderer, and cross stitcher, however her greatest passion was her family. Barbara was a proud grandmother.

Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her brothers, Rollin (Marie) and James Hoover.

She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Wayne) Moody of Hobart; three grandchildren, Brynn, Bowen and Paige Moody; sisters, Charlotte Goodrich and Noel Peck; sister-in-law, Lynn Hoover; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10, at Hobart United Methodist Church. Friends and relatives are invited to call one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
