MORRIS - Barry W. Valentine, 75, of Morris passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at his home, with the help of Helios Care and surrounded by his family.

Barry was born in Cortland, on Sept. 2, 1946, the son of Durward R. and Leah (Hoag) Valentine, joining the family as their fourth son.

He graduated from Morris Central School in 1964 and joined the United States Navy later that year. The Navy sent him to school in Memphis, Tennessee, for more training.

He married Mary Roffe in 1966 and they made their home in Key West, Florida, where he was stationed and worked as an aviation storekeeper for the Navy. After completing his commitment to the Navy and receiving an honorable discharge, the couple returned to Morris.

Barry worked at Bendix Corp. for a short time before being employed by the H.W. Naylor Company, where he retired after 37 years.

He loved to hunt, fish and rarely missed a year at hunting camp with his brothers and friends. He spent many weekends and vacations, along with his wife restoring an old camp in Beaver River surrounded by Forever Wild State Forest.

Barry is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 55 years; sons, Wayne (Sharon) Valentine of Cherry Valley and Dean (Nichole) Valentine of Morris; grandchildren, Xander, Chloe, Mallory, Madison, Cassandra (Josh) Myers, and Keegan; one great-grandson, Porter Myers; brothers Gene, Bill (Joan), Paul (Lori) Valentine; brother-in-law, Art Roffe, sisters-in-law, Kathy Valentine, Carol Valentine and Kathryn Roffe.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Rene Valentine and Ron Valentine; and sisters-in law, Janet Roffe and Ruth Valentine.

A memorial graveside service will be held in Hillington Cemetery in Morris at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, with Penny Harrington officiating.
