Oneonta, NY - ONEONTA - Betsy M. Brazier, 84, passed away on May 19, 2026, with her family by her side.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Ronald; sister, Jody Barnes; and brother-in-law, David Barnes.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Amy (Craig) Harvey and Mary (David) Stalder; wonderful grandchildren, Erin and Nick Stalder and Meredith Smithling; and brother, Joseph (Chris) Mitchell.
She was born Aug. 11, 1941, in Oneonta to Joseph and Harriett (Ruthbun) Mitchell. Betsy graduated from Oneonta High School in 1959 and earned degrees in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Oneonta. She dedicated her career to teaching elementary art across several local districts, including Unadilla, Sidney, Otego, Masonville, and Sidney Center, and later when her children were in school, Center Street, Riverside, and Valleyview Elementary Schools in Oneonta. " I feel blessed to have known and worked with so many of Oneonta's children."
Betsy was an avid reader, reading approximately 100 books a year; and enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, eating out, and spending time with her family. She was also a talented artist known for her beautiful watercolor paintings and handmade cards. In 2015, she was honored as Alumni of the Year by the Oneonta Alumni Association.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at noon, Wednesday, May 27, at Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. Deacon Paul Cerosale will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
