Gilbertsville, New York - GILBERTSVILLE - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Beverly L. Hay on July 1, 2022.
She was born April 16, 1938, to Joseph Keene and Marjorie (Macumber) Keene.
She grew up in Gilbertsville on a dairy farm where she loved showing her cows.
She developed sewing skills at a very early age and made sewing, knitting, crocheting, and reupholstery work her career at her store The Hay Loft. She was an extremely talented seamstress who made her own wedding gown and gowns for multiple family members. She loved creating beautiful quilts, afghans, baby sweaters, blankets, and other crafts.
She enjoyed baking and will be remembered for her amazing boxes of homemade Christmas cookies and chocolates for family, neighbors, and friends. Christmas was her favorite holiday and loved ones enjoyed visiting her old stone house where each room was decorated with a different theme.
Her love of flowers and gardening was evident with her numerous flower gardens surrounding her home.
She married Ronald W. Hay on Sept. 11, 1955. They shared 56 wonderful years together before he predeceased her on May 23, 2012.
She was also predeceased by two sons, Danny and Randy; one grandson, Jordan; and one brother, Richard Keene.
She has three surviving children, Deb Hay (Tom Davis), Andy (Melissa) Hay, and Kim (George) Mehlrose. She leaves behind four granddaughters, Kristin (Michael) Moffeit, Mikaela Mehlrose, Marissa Mehlrose (Matt Stetz), and Jessica Hay; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra (Dave) Stoy and Betty (John) Emerling; a sister-in-law, Shirley Keene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, July 7, at Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church with a memorial service at 5 p.m. A reception will follow.
Donations may be made to a local SPCA to honor her love of animals.
Her family has entrusted her care to the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris.
