MILFORD - Carl William St. John, 72, of Milford, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

Carl was born on Sept. 27, 1950, in Cooperstown, the son of the late William and the late Mildred (Cleary) St. John.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from 1969 to1973.

Carl married the former Nancy Van Valkenburgh in Roxbury, on Dec. 15, 1979.

Carl was a dedicated water superintendent for the village of Cooperstown and later was a maintenance director at Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.

Carl was an honorary member of the Cooperstown Fire Department where he was an EMT and foreman of Engine Co. No. 1. He was a member of American Legion Post in Milford.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and following NASCAR.

Carl is survived by his loving family, his wife, Nancy; son, Christopher (Monica Anne Peterson-St John) St. John and grandson, Anderson, who was his pride and joy, of Clifton Park.

The family extend its thanks to the staff at Fox Hospital for the loving care to Carl and his family.

Services were held privately in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family is being cared for by Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
