SCHUYLERVILLE - Chester J. Winslow III, a longtime resident of Schylerville, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 20, 2016, at the Orchard Nursing Home in Granville. He was 74.
Born April 10, 1942 in Oneida, Chester was the son of the late Chester Jr. and Florence (Kempe) Winslow. He was a native of Hartwick and graduated from Cooperstown Central School in 1959, where he was an outstanding wrestler. He attended Springfield College in Massachusetts and continued wrestling at a high level.
Chester enlisted in the United States Army in 1961. He was stationed for most of his tour in Okinawa, Japan, training service dogs.
After his discharge in 1964, he attended Hartwick College in Oneonta. He found employment in Hyde Park along with his wife, Dorothy. After furthering his education, he was employed by the federal government at Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet until his retirement.
He was an avid hunter and golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Shannon Winslow and by his brother, John Kempe Winslow in 1969.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Karen of Saratoga Springs; two sons, Chester Winslow IV and Michael Winslow, both of Berlin, New Hampshire; and three grandchildren, Courtney, Chester and Dorothy;one brother, Michael and his wife, Christine; one sister, Maria and her husband, Don Folts; and four nieces, Andria, Cassandra, Carrie and Stacey.
A graveside service will be held at 12:45 p.m., in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville on May 6.
