Sidney, NY - SIDNEY - We are saddened by the passing of Chris G. Bickos, on July 10, 2026. He was a resident of the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, where he reached the grand old age of 100!

Chris was born in Sidney on March 8, 1926, to the late George and Dina (Dentes) Bickos. He graduated from Sidney Central School in 1943. Right after high school he served in the US Army as a Tank Commander from 1944-1946. After returning from the military, he attended Bentley College in Boston, Massachusetts to become a Certified Public Accountant. Chris operated his own business from his home in Sidney for many years.

He married Stella (Couvaris) on Sept. 9, 1950 at the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church in Binghamton. She predeceased him on Nov. 10, 2008. He then married Hazel (Charles) on Oct. 31, 2012. She predeceased him on May 22, 2020.

Chris was very active in his community. He was a two-time Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a Mason and a lifetime member of Sidney Elks Lodge #2175, as well as a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his brother, Manuel Bickos, of Sidney; and sister, Helen Verven, of Rhinebeck; stepchildren, Judy (Karl) Beers, Kathy Carvin, Wayne (Nancy) Charles, David (Tracy) Charles, Nancy (Don) Rivenburg; and several nieces and nephews, along with many special friends. A special mention to those who cared for him at his home: Judy, Kathy, Christy Carvin, Bonnie Scanlon, Judy Bickos, Nikki VanVoris, Tamara Maddalone and very special neighbors, Jan and Gina Gorshak.

Chris was predeceased by his brother, John G. Bickos.

Since May 14, 2024, Chris was a resident of the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford. He was loved by everyone there and was given the best care ever until his final breath. Thank you to the NYS Veterans Home for all their care, respect, and love.

Services will be held beginning with calling hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by an Elks service and funeral beginning at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 15 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.
