DeLANCEY - Clayton L. Palmatier, 80, of DeLancey, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, Jan. 23, 2017, following a long battle with cancer.

Born on Oct. 11, 1936 in Hale Eddy, Clayton was the son of the late Horace and Ena (Sprague) Palmatier.

Mr. Palmatier proudly served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he continued in the NY Army National Guard Reserves obtaining the rank of Sergeant E5.

Clayton worked for SUNY Delhi in the maintenance department. He retired as head custodian.

He was an active member of the congregation at the First United Methodist Church in Walton for many years.

Clayton enjoyed gardening, feeding birds, hunting, but Clayton's greatest love was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Palmatier; four children, Neil (Kristine), Glenn, Valerie and Stephen Palmatier; grandchildren, Noelle, Brianna, Katlyn, Ryan, Matthew, Krystina, Kimberly, Thomas, David, Kayla, Evan, Shane and Stephen Jr.; great-grandchildren, Diem, Liam and Angelina; brother, Carlton; sister, Carolyn; several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from noon until 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27, at the First United Methodist Church, 101 North St., Walton, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dale Ashby officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Walton Cemetery.

Clayton will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
