Daniel R. Moore Obituary

MIDDLEFIELD - Our beloved Daniel Moore, born Dec. 13, 1941, passed away on July 9, 2024 in his home with his daughters by his side at the age of 82 after a long battle with health issues.

Dan was the son of Blencoe and Helen (Bush) Moore, who predeceased him, as did his beloved wife of 59 years, Nellie (Warner); sisters-in-law, Theodora (Peeters) Moore and Shirley (Warner) Mann; grandson, Francis Hoag, great-granddaughter, Birch Hoag-Robison, nephew, Jay Moore, and niece, Amanda Morales-Higgins.

Dan was a 1960 graduate of Cherry Valley Central School, and he was a state FFA officer in 1960. He retired from the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital on Dec. 12, 1997, after 35 years of service. He served on the board of the Cherry Valley Health Center for 20 years, as well as a trustee of the United Methodist Church in Middlefield.

He is survived by his three daughters, Charlotte Hoag (Brennan) of Middlefield, Cynthia Moore (Eric) of Richmondville and Michelle Moore of Middlefield; three siblings, John, Helen and Floyd (Lynn) Moore; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family; and many dear friends.

Dan will be remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He had a love not only for all of us but also for nature. He would spend a lot of time working in his gardens, and watching the birds and wildlife that would often visit. He had a strong devotion to his church and the community. He loved the flowers and trees surrounding his home. The family dog, Ginger, was a devoted companion and never strayed far from his side.

Dan leaves behind many beautiful memories. His grandchildren will always remember the famous "big bear trap" that grandpa would get them in on every visit. To say he will be missed is a true understatement. We will love and miss him until our paths meet again.

The family will receive relatives and friends to celebrate Dan's life, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley. A funeral service will promptly follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ronald Fralick officiating. Interment will follow at the Westville Cemetery, county Route 35, Westville (Middlefield).

Dan's family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Susquehanna SPCA, 5082-5088 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
