Oneonta, NY - ONEONTA - Daniel J. Tranvaag, 82, passed away at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown on March 9, 2026.

He was born Feb. 12, 1944, in Oneonta, the son of Alfred and Grace (Tift) Tranvaag.

Daniel graduated from Charlotte Valley Central School and earned an associate's degree from SUNY Delhi.

On Aug. 2, 1964, he married Mary Weitzel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta.

Daniel was employed at Amphenol for 27 years and at Pickett's Building for an additional 15 years. A member of the Sundown Golf & Country Club in Guilford, he was an avid golfer as well as a reader with a particular interest in the Civil War and history. He enjoyed staying busy at home, meticulously maintaining his lawn and garden. Above all, he cherished time with his family, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Tranvaag; his sons, Mike (Tammy) Tranvaag and David (Frances) Tranvaag; grandchildren, Jesse (Nina), Jamie (Drew), "Jones Pack," Alexander, and Annalise; great-granddaughter, Gianna; brother, Ola Tranvaag, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Ted (Dawn) Tranvaag and Larry Tranvaag; sister, Nancy (Mel) Cargill; and sister-in-law, Deb Tranvaag.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with the Deacon Paul Cerosale, officiating.
