Lafayette, Colorado - LAFAYETTE, COLORADO - David C. Cuyler, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11, 2026. He was born August 17, 1951 in Oneonta, son of the late George and Wava (Hatcher) Cuyler.

David attended Bugbee School through the 5th grade, completed 6th grade at Center Street Elementary, and graduated from Oneonta High School in 1969. He was active in sports, student government, and theater, and kept close with many of his hometown friends. He completed his bachelor's degree in 1973 at Union College, where he made many lasting friendships with his brothers at Delta Phi, the third oldest fraternity in the U.S.

David's professional career began in Manhattan, as the movie industry was transformed by technology; when media was adapting to consumer demand, when VHS beat out Betamax, and the idea of watching newly released movies at home was a whole new concept. He negotiated with major Hollywood studios to direct the manufacture and distribution of their hit movies for a home audience.

His career path led him from New York to Chicago and eventually to Los Angeles. David kept current with the changing media landscape, earned his MBA from Harvard, and worked in corporate management for manufacturers, distributors and studios, concluding his industry career as an Executive VP and COO at Paramount Studios.

David's personal life took a fabulous turn when he became a father. His love and dedication to his sons, Daniel and Dylan, knew no bounds. With the loss of their mother, he took on the toughest job on the planet - single parent. "The Three Amigos" lived well and thrived in Lafayette, Colorado. His sons' independence today demonstrates his intention to raise not just boys, but the fine young men they have become.

David's interests covered a gamut of ideas, from history and politics, culture and the arts, to life's great mysteries and our wondrous universe. He was endlessly curious, easy to talk to, and generous with his good cheer. He will be deeply missed.

Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Christopher (Jackie); niece, Diane (Larry) Sutliff; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins, and the mother of his beloved sons, Daye Rose.

He is survived by his devoted sons, Daniel of Leadville, Colorado, and Dylan of Lafayette, Colorado; father-in-law, Daniel Rose, of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, George (Denise) of Oneonta; sister, Alison (James Seymour, deceased) of Glenville; sister-in-law, Annie, of Clarence; nieces, Jacqueline (Kevin) More, and Karen (Tom) Oliver of Oneonta; nephews Michael (Chieko) Cuyler of Bristow Virginia, and Daniel (Kelly) Seymour of Burnt Hills; grandnieces, Christina (fiancé Zachary Kline) Jones, Abigail Jones, May Cuyler and Cooper Cuyler, and grandnephews, Clark Oliver and Kosei (fiancé Madison Fitzpatrick) Cuyler.
