Morris, NY - MORRIS - Doris Aneilda Nissen Bourgeois was born on Nov. 21, 1938 in Davenport, daughter of Ralph and Pauline (Wright) Nissen. Doris graduated from CVCS in Davenport and Spencer Business School in Schenectady and worked at Mohonasen School after graduation.
Doris married Gerard Bourgeois on Aug. 17, 1957 and they made their home, together for 63 years, in Morris. Her lifetime centered on bringing up her five children and working with her husband on Broad Meadows Dairy Farm. She also worked at Milne Library at SUNY Oneonta, in the Public Defender's Office, Cooperstown, at Crop Production Services, Oneonta, and at Morris Central School. She had her own business preparing taxes and enjoyed a good relationship with her clients for many years.
Doris was involved within the community in Morris as a 4-H leader, Girl Scout leader, a youth group leader in the United Methodist Church, and served as a member of the Morris Emergency Squad.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerard; daughter, Brenda Deer; brother, James Nissen; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Bourgeois; and Maynard Conroe. She is survived by her daughter, Diana (David) Birdsall of Morris; sons, Gerard (Olga) Bourgeois II of Bridgeville, Delaware; Brian (Marjorie) Bourgeois of Morris; and Oliver (Amie) Bourgeois of Morris; son-in-law, John (Jennifer) Deer of Delmar; sisters, Lucy Conroe; and Elaine (Dennis) Bourgeois; and sisters-in-law Irene Bourgeois; and Harriet Nissen.
Doris is survived by grandchildren, John (Kari) Deer; Matthew (Amanda) Birdsall; Meredith (Ken) Stabler; Benjamin (Hilary) Deer; Bethany (Christopher) Deer Yarrobino; Bradley (Stephanie) Bourgeois; Phillip (Erica) Bourgeois; Gerard Bourgeois III; Frazer Bourgeois; Margaret Bourgeois; Tobias Bourgeois and Hazel Bourgeois.
Doris is also survived by great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jack Deer; Luca and Everly Birdsall; Sofia and Carina Baio; Declan, Jacob, Naomi and Eliza Deer; Jackson and Noah Yarrobino; Albus and Phineas Bourgeois; Eugene Bourgeois.
Doris was so loved by all her family for the joy and laughter she bought to their lives and will be deeply missed.
Calling hours will be held at the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home, 60 South Broad Street, Morris, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at Zion Episcopal Church, 158 East Main Street, Morris.
