Doris Whitney Hewitt Obituary

ROXBURY - Aug. 3, 2020, age 90. The beloved mother of Elizabeth (Jonathan) Grapes, Dr. Michael (Barbara) and Sarah (Richard) Porter. Also survived by her brother, Glenn Whitney; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins and lifelong friend, Janet German.

Predeceased by her husband, John B. Hewitt Jr. (1969) and son, David A. Hewitt (2012).

Doris was born in Prattsville, Nov. 8, 1929, to Leon and Eva Johnson Whitney. She graduated from Roxbury High School and raised four children in Denver, with John. She was an outstanding cook and a kind woman of few but meaningful words.

Doris worked for many years at Kirkside and the Roxbury Library. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and her group of friends.

The family sincerely thanks the physician and entire nursing and support staff at Mountainside Residential Care Center for their years of truly unsurpassed care for Doris.

Private interment in Bedell Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Roxbury Library Association and Mountainside Residential Care Sunshine Fund.
