Dorothy Edna  Schulz
DAVENPORT CENTER - Dorothy Edna (O'Dell) Schulz, 92, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at her home in Davenport Center.
Born in Delhi on June 23, 1927, she was one of seven children born to William J. and Ida Z. (Mattice) O'Dell. She grew up mostly in Delhi and Andes and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1945.
Dorothy was recruited at age 16 to work at the 4-H office in Delhi where she was employed for many years. She would later become a 4-H leader in Davenport Center.
She married Walter M. Schulz on July 4, 1952, and they built their home in Davenport Center where they raised their four children, Walter Eric (Rick), Philip Wayne (Pete), Barbara Ann and David James. They lost son, Pete, in 2003, and her husband, Walter, passed away in 2007.
Dorothy enjoyed music, gardening, sewing and baking and though primarily a homemaker, she worked for several years in the bake shop at Feather & Screen in Davenport Center. She had a soft spot for animals and gave devotedly to the Humane Society and ASPCA. She was also a regular contributor to the Veterans Administration and numerous public service organizations and medical research teams.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Walter (Rick) of Davenport Center and David of Munford, Tennessee and daughter, Barbara (William) Romero of Medford. She is also survived by her brother, Leroy O'Dell of the Veterans Home at Oxford; sister, Elizabeth Hall of Meridale; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Bookhout Funeral Home 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. James Crouthamel officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time when the family will be in attendance.
