DELHI - Edward DeWitt, born Oct. 4, 1926 in Delhi, went to be with Jesus on Oct. 18, 2018.
Ed was born in the house that is next door to our present home and he lived the majority of his life in Delhi.
A WWII veteran, Ed proudly served in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Germany.
He was a dedicated member of the Delhi Fire Department and Emergency Squad for more than 50 years.
He was employed by the New York state department of transportation for 38 years.
Ed was a stage 4 cancer survivor of 15 years.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, May and Charles DeWitt and his only son, Eddie.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette of 67 years; daughters Rochelle (Daniel) Lynch, Gail (Pierson) Smith and Donna (Philip) Elena; his grandchildren Christopher Elena, Stephanie Lynch, Elizabeth DeWitt and Tre' Smith; great-grandchildren Madison and Mason Elena, and Lucianna and Brayson Arenas.
A celebration of Ed's life and fire department services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at the Delhi Fire Department, 140 Delview Terrace Extension, Delhi. Private burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Delhi Fire Department or to Delhi EMS.
