Oneonta, NY - ONEONTA - Edward D. Eckman Jr., 93, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1932, in Jamestown, the son of Edward and Fern (Sabow) Eckman Sr.

Edward married Anne Kudzy on Aug. 25, 1956, in Lakewood.

He earned the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force from 1960-1962.

Edward was an OB/GYN physician in Oneonta for 28 years. He was known for his amazing bedside manner, and he was a strong supporter of women's reproductive rights.

Edward graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College and Western Reserve Medical College.

He was an avid fly fisherman and upland gamebird hunter with a love/hate relationship with the Weimaraner dog breed.

Edward is survived by his wife, Anne Eckman of Oneonta; sons, David Eckman of Oneonta, Peter Eckman and his wife, Ann of Alabama, and Michael Eckman and Julie of Oneonta; and grandson, Jacob Duffee Eckman and his fiancée, Kathryn of Arizona.

Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
