SHERBURNE - Edward Holbert 64, of Sherburne, passed away on Aug. 29, 2023, at MIB Hospital, Cooperstown.

Ed was born on Sept. 3, 1958, in Hancock, the son of George and Jean (Ceresko) Holbert.

His childhood was spent in Scott Center, Pennsylvania. He attended Hancock Central School and later graduated from Deposit Central School.

He was employed by Phillips Lumber Company of Hartwick, Johnson Farms of New Berlin, the Town of Columbus, and NYSDOT.

He married Elsie Holbert in 1978 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin. She predeceased him on June 7, 2019.

Anyone who has ever met Ed, will never forget him or his stories. He loved fishing, demolition derbies, hanging out at local gas stations, eating a good Chinese meal, and wrestling when he was in high school.

He is survived by his sons, Michael Holbert of New Berlin and David Lewis (Rachael) of Canada; grandchildren, Maggi, Colton, Madlyne and Addsyn; siblings, David Holbert (Sue) of Burlington Flats, George Holbert (Deanna) of Oxford, Beverly Fagan of New Berlin, Joe Holbert (Beverly) of New Berlin, Carol Thomas (Greg) of Cayuta, Nancy Johnson (Bryan) of Edmeston, Roger Holbert (Kristen) of Sauquoit, Susan Holbert (Art) of Edmeston, and Catherine Holbert (Wayne) of Jefferson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, at Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with Pastor Rob Lloyd officiating. Calling hours will be held first from 9 to 11 a.m.

Burial will be privately held in Edmeston Union Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Berlin Fire Department.
