Gilbertsville, NY - GILBERTSVILLE - Edward I. Wilson (Ed), 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at his home in Gilbertsville.

Ed was a lifelong resident of the Gilbertsville area and dedicated much of his life to serving his community. Ed was a member of the Gilbertsville Fire Department, where he proudly served as past chief. He also served as mayor of Gilbertsville for more than 20 years, leaving a lasting impact on the village he loved. He also served as a Boy Scout leader, coached Little League, and mentored countless young people along the way. Ed was a devoted member of the Gilbertsville Baptist Church where he played an active role in helping to maintain the church and faithfully supported its mission throughout his life.

Ed is survived by his children: Joanne (Kevin) Tompkins, Edward I. (Linda) Wilson Jr., and Scott (Caroline) Wilson; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Rounds, Allison Pianoforte (Brian), Andrea Pennell (Ryan), Corey Wilson, and Brian Wilson; He is also survived by great-grandchildren: Leah and Grady Rounds, Amelia and Bria Pianoforte, and Hudson Pennell along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sally Ann Wilson, and his three sisters.

Ed will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Gilbertsville community whose lives he touched through his generosity and service.

A celebration of his life is planned for the spring when his family, friends and the community can all join together. Details on the celebration of life will be forthcoming.
