GILBERTSVILLE - We are sad to announce the passing of Elvira Blanche Lopez Frewert of Gilbertsville. She died on Dec. 7, 2022, just shy of her 73rd birthday. Elvira passed away peacefully following a nearly decade-long fight with Alzheimer's.

Elvira was born Dec. 17, 1949, to Emil and Elvira Lopez.

She grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City.

She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Hunter College in 1970, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst in 1972.

She was an accomplished copy writer and publishing consultant for Billboard and Harper's magazines, and later a freelance consultant. She later obtained her teaching license to teach high school Spanish in upstate New York.

Her hobbies included cross stitching, quilting, reading, creative writing, contra dancing and curating an extensive recipe book; she also had a love for armadillos and her classic green Volkswagen Beetle.

Elvira is survived by her husband, William Frewert; son, Austin Frewert; daughter and son-in-law, Nora and Jose Cortez; and cousin Ed and Terry Moro and their family.
