Fred E. Hitt III Obituary
BLOOMVILLE - Fred E. Hitt lll, passed away on Dec. 7, 2020, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minnesota.
Fred was born on Oct. 4, 1956, to Fred and Trudy Hitt of Bloomville.
He is survived by his mother, Trudy Hitt Colvin; brother, Jim (Donna) Hitt; sister, Kathy (Darryl) Sparkes; nephews and nieces, Kevin (Suzy) Hitt, Jennifer (Robert) Mueller, Joshua (Bri) Sparkes and Cory Sparkes (Marsha Nissen); great-nephews, and great-nieces, Lila and Lauren Mueller, Brooke and Jacob Hitt, Paisley, Adalee and Brayden Sparkes. He is also survived by many uncles and cousins. Fred also had an adopted family in Wrenshall, Minnesota, the Laveau family, Jeremy, Amy, Remington and Morgan.
He was predeceased by his father, Fred E. Hitt Jr.
Fred attended South Kortright Central School, graduating in 1974. After graduation, Fred joined the U.S. Air Force in 1974, becoming a security police dog handler. He received an honorable discharge.
While growing up in Bloomville, Fred loved the outdoors, learning how to fish and not necessarily with a pole, baseball, soccer, ice skating on Mill Pond and hunting. Trapping was the one outside activity that he really loved and took pride in, and where he earned his nickname "Trapper."
Fred moved to Minnesota to work for the International Union of Elevator Constructors, which he retired from.
Following his retirement, Fred would spend his time in Bloomville and Wrenshall, Minnesota. He took great pride in his flowers and lawn care at the home he grew up in. Every winter he would head to Wrenshall, Minnesota, to deer hunt and ice fish on the many Minnesota lakes.
A man with a gracious heart, contributing to church dinners, Christmas and Easter boxes for his church, he also made sure that the service flags were placed in Bloomville Cemetery before Memorial Day.
Fred will be remembered for his big heart, deep pockets, wonderful smile and contagious laugh that made everyone laugh with him. He was a friend to many.
A special thanks to the hospice team of St. Luke's.
Because of COVID-19, there will be no calling hours and a private funeral with a burial and memorial service in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, Fred's family has requested contributions to the Bloomville Fire Department and EMS, P.O. Box 756, Bloomville, NY 13739, in his memory.
