STAMFORD - Gay D. Ackerman of Stamford, passed away at her home on Friday morning, March 24, 2017, following a long illness.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Gay was the daughter of the late Arthur and Inez (Garrett) Marria.

She was married to Donald L. Ackerman on March 26, 1988, a union that lasted 29 years.

Gay was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Delhi.

She enjoyed making and sending homemade greeting cards to her family and friends with love and care. Family was very important to her. Gay was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother.

Besides her parents, Gay was predeceased by a sister, Gloria.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Ackerman of Stamford; children, Doie (Tom) Williams of Cortland, Ohio, Thomas (Laurence) Stanford of La Garenne Colombes, France, Kelly (Tim) Fleming of Ellicott City, Maryland, Terri (Wes) Massaro of Gardner, Kansas, Mia (Scott) Baugher of Mooresville, North Carolina, Andi (Rob) Elfner of Ashville, North Carolina, Lewis Ackerman of Toledo, Ohio, and Matt (Shannon) Ackerman of Coupeville, Washington; grandchildren, Nick, Todd, Roxanne, Mark, Jake, Michael, Owen, Hope, James, Mia, Eric, Matthew and Maddox; brothers, David Stroud of Kilgore, Texas and Dean Stroud of Lacross, Wisconson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family recognizes the special care she received from Dr. Nelson, Dr. Priem, the nurses in ICU at Medical Center and Darcy of Catskill Area Hospice.

A memorial service and celebration of Gay's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 565 Andes Road, Delhi, with the Rev. John Priest officiant.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Gay, may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Delhi.
