ONEONTA - George Stanley Bishop Jr., 77, of Oneonta, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

He was born Sept. 4, 1947 in Oneonta, the son of George Stanley and Mary Eva (Hough) Bishop. He married Nancy Archer Jan. 7, 1977.

In his early years, after his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Stan enjoyed taking photos, wood carving, wood burning and polishing stones. Later in life he enjoyed reading National Geographic magazines and watching crime dramas on television.

He was a proud member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church.

Stan is survived by his wife, Nancy and son, David, both of Oneonta; daughter, Brenda Monroe Bakker (Ken Clarke) of Morristown, Tennessee; granddaughter, Shauntel Bakker of Castorland; step-grandchildren, Duane Bakker Jr. (Jeannie), Shain Bakker (Sarah), Brittany Davis (Rob), and several step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou Bishop (Rick Cornell) Otego; nieces and nephew, Rachael Miller Micheke of Oneonta, NY, Chris Demopoulos of Virginia, and Michele Demopoulos of North Carolina.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his nephew Daniel Demopoulos.

Friends are invited to greet the family from 11 a.m. until noon Friday, Oct. 11, at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, where a funeral service will take place immediately following at noon.

Stan with be laid to rest in Walton Cemetery, Walton, with military honors.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
