STAMFORD - Helen was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Hamden.
She was predeceased by her parents, Eldred and Florence Shaver and husband, William A. Lewis.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Simpson (Robert) and Patricia Sawyer (Jerry). She is also survived by five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her partner of 35 years, Lou Snyder.
Helen was a businesswoman who ran her own therapeutic massage practice.
She was very active in her community, serving in Planned Parenthood, as chairperson for Delaware Opportunities and on the town board. Service to her community was her mainstay.
Visitation for family and friends, from 11 a.m. until noon, Wednesday, Oct. 18, will be followed by her funeral service at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville and burial in Shavertown Cemetery, Andes.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's memory to Delaware Opportunities, Hamden.
