SIDNEY - Howard E. Bailey, 99, passed away April 14, 2023, at Edith Norse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts.

He was born Nov. 2, 1923, son of the late Legrande and Alice Bailey in Morris.

Howard graduated from Morris Central School in 1942.

In January 1943, Howard was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Pacific Theater of WWII and was with the occupation forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.

Howard married Laraine Russell of Sidney on Oct. 1, 1965. She predeceased him on Sept. 11, 2009.

He attended Hartwick College and later worked for Amphenol Corp. in Sidney. He was a supervisor when he retired after 35 years of employment.

Howard was very active as a fisherman and took many trips to Canada. He loved hunting and trapping as well as golf and was a member of the Sidney Golf and Country Club for years.

Howard is survived by his son, Scott Bailey; and stepson, Michael Shapley.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 22, at CH Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.

Burial. will military honors. will be in Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center.
