GRAND GORGE - Irene Steiner Hinkley, 92, of Grand Gorge, passed away peacefully at her home on June 5, 2022, following a long illness.

She was born on March 26, 1930, in Huntersfield, at the family home at Steiner Health Farms, begun by her father and mother Otto and Marie Steiner, most recently known as The Hideaway.

Irene graduated from Grand Gorge Central School in 1947 and attended business school in Albany.

Irene had a long employment career beginning early as a young woman helping her parents in their boarding home in Huntersfield — the former Hideaway Restaurant. She was the owner/operator of Irene S. Hinkley Insurance Agency and worked at W.S. Hinkley & Sons, Inc. as bookkeeper for many years.

Irene is survived by her sons, Wink S. Hinkley (Karen) of Vero Beach, Florida, and Ed Hinkley of Grand Gorge; and daughter, Dee Guelli of Stuart, Florida. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Dominick Pucci (Michelle), Kristi Anne Pucci, Wink S. (DeeDee) Hinkley Jr., Marlana and Spencer Hinkley, Janelle (Kyle) McDonnell and Brent Guelli and 12 great-grandchildren, Dominique, Monique, Nigel, Dominick, Ally, Abby, Makayla, Izzy, Winfield Noah, Capri, Finley and Rohan; a great-great-grandson, Donavyn; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Winfield, "Wink;" as well as her parents; brothers, Rene and Roger; and sisters, Georgette and Lillian; her infant son and her great-granddaughter, Amanda.

She was a volunteer in the Grand Gorge Fire Department Auxiliary and Earl B. Dudley Post 686 American Legion.

She enjoyed her hobbies of ceramics, baking and hosting many family events. She and Wink loved spending time together at their winter home in Singer Island, Florida, for many years.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury. Her funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dottie Morse officiating.
