Delhi - DELHI - Irene Sutherland, 92, of Delhi, passed away on June 13, 2024.

Irene was born on Jan. 23, 1932, to her parents, Elma and Elmer Marshfield of Marcellus.

Irene married her husband of 71 years, Hugh Sutherland, in 1952. Hugh and Irene went on to have four children.

Irene is survived by John and Ramona Sutherland of Scotia, Sharon and Michael Johnson of Hollister, Florida, David Sutherland of Jacksonville, Florida, and Diane and Michael Ringler of Loretto, Pennsylvania. She was a wonderful grandmother to Nicholas, Christopher, Carmen, Connor, Ryan and Kayla. She was thrilled to also have five great-grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Aliyah, Cayden, Will and Olivia. She adored all children and loved and cared for Ian and Magdalyn Brydon for many years. Irene came from a large family and is survived by siblings, Karen Curtis, Wayne Marshfield, John Marshfield, Phil Marshfield, Ginger Evans, and Roger Marshfield.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Robert Marshfield.

In 1955 Irene and Hugh moved to Delhi, where they ran a successful dairy farm for more than 20 years. Irene was an integral part of the farm and also taught sewing and cooking to the area 4-H members. Irene was also very involved in the West Delhi Church where she served as treasurer, elder and trustee over the years.

In her retirement years, Irene filled her days with cooking, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She made and donated many, many baby blankets for area babies in need.

A graveside memorial service will take place at the West Delhi Cemetery/Church at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, with a luncheon immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the West Delhi Presbyterian Church.
