COBLESKILL - Janet C. Coons, 91, died Tuesday June 23, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Born Nov. 13, 1928, in Sidney, she was the daughter of Theodore and Esther (McLennan) Clarke.

Janet married her loving husband, Richard Coons, on March 7, 1952. They raised their family and spent many years together in Cobleskill. After a move to Maryland, Richard died on Nov. 21, 2013.

Janet worked for Cobleskill Central School as a teacher for many years. After she left the school, she worked at the SUNY Cobleskill Library.

She was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Quilters, Quarter Inch Club, Grand Strand Quilters and Myrtle Beach Shore Birds Quilts of Valor. In her free time, Janet could be found quilting for charity to benefit Head Start, Quilts of Valor and Upstate Veterans Home, to name a few. Janet loved to play cards with her family and friends. She had a love for oysters that was as deep as the sea. Janet had a lifelong love of travel. She cherished her winters spent at the beach in Myrtle Beach.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Alison Coons of Richmondville, Becky (David) Morin of Maryland, Megan (John) Hughes of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan and JoAnne Coons of Palmer Lake, Colorado; sons, Clarke Coons of Palmer Lake, Colorado and Todd (Laurie) Coons of Adams, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Arika Botitta of Pueblo, Colorado, Clarke Hughes of Chicago, Emily Hughes of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, John P. Hughes of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Malia Coons of Adams, Massachusetts, Alyssa Wylde of Milford, Massachusetts, Brandon Wylde of Clarksburg, Massachusetts and Lydia Botitta of Afton.

Private family services will be held.
