ONEONTA - Janet Spooner Anderson, 76, of Oneonta, passed away on Sunday Dec. 20, 2020, in Cooperstown.

Janet was born in Edmeston, the daughter of the late Henry and Elsie Williams Spooner.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 2017; and brother, Dean and Mark Spooner.

She is survived by a son, Jeremy (Tammy) Hilts of Oneonta; stepsons, Christopher (Sandy) Anderson of Shortsville, Steven (Wendy) Anderson of West Edmeston and Timothy (Delfina) Anderson of Aurora, Colorado. Also surviving are her sisters, Chris Taylor of North Carolina, Rita Goodrich of Oneonta and Lori (Jeff) Guido of Maryland; step-grandchildren, Dustin and Will Martin, Zachary, Jacob, Sarah, Jordan, Danny, Dane and Dean Anderson; sister-in-law, Kathy Hilts; brother-in-law, Jim (Deb) Hilts; sisters-in-law, Kerri Spooner and Pat Spooner; along with many nieces and nephews.

A lifetime area resident, Janet grew up on the family farm and graduated from Leonardsville Central School. She obtained her degree in education from SUNY Oneonta, and went on to teach many years with the Unatego Central School District, until her retirement. Following retirement, she continued substitute teaching.

Janet loved animals and was generous with a number of charities. She attended many school sporting events for family members, and enjoyed going to dinner with her sister-in-law.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in South Brookfield Cemetery.
