Jay Gula Obituary

Grand Gorge, New York - GRAND GORGE - Jay Gula, 56, of Grand Gorge, passed away suddenly at his home, Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2021.

Born on March 5, 1965, in Cooperstown, Jay was the son of the late John and Sylvia (Frustieri) Gula Jr.

He was married to Deb (Toombs) Gula.

Jay was self-employed and a jack-of-all-trades. He could fix or build most anything, from custom building his own backyard paradise to plumbing and construction repairs. He enjoyed playing basketball with his sons, hiking, bicycling and running with his dogs, but he loved spending time with his family and friends most of all. Jay had a passion for restoring and building muscle cars, which he often added to his remarkable collection. One of his latest and favorites was a 1970 AAR Plymouth Cuda.

Besides his parents, Jay was predeceased by his stepmother, Doris Gula; sister, Lilly Gula; and brother-in-law, Thomas Mole.

He is survived by his wife, Deb Gula of Grand Gorge; sons, David (Shelby) and Steven (Destiny) Gula all of Grand Gorge; grandchildren, Kai, Steven, Cora and Isabella; brothers, John Gula III of Bloomville and Jody (Elizabeth) Gula of Fulton; sisters, Marsha (Stephen) Hayward of London, United Kingdom and Silvia Gula of Syracuse; stepsisters, Sheila Frisbee Taylor of Livonia and Lila Shaw of Cookeville, Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Robin Mole and Melanie (Jeff) Cuddy both of Tampa, Florida; brother-in-law, Jeff (Donna) Toombs of Davenport; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jay was very well loved and respected throughout the community and he will be greatly missed by everyone.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at MacArthur Funeral Home, 15 Buntline Drive, Stamford, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, with the Rev. Dottie Morris. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.
