Jean Drake Linton Obituary

ONEIDA - Jean D. Linton, 94, of Oneida, passed away Friday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2019, at Oneida Health Extended Care and Rehabilitation Facility where she had been a resident since Sept. 25, 2017.

She was born on April 6, 1924, in Wampsville, the daughter of Fred and Maude Stone Drake. She was a graduate of Oneida High School, class of 1941.

On July 25, 1941, Jean was united in marriage to Lawrence R. Linton in Hickory Knoll-Oneida Castle. Larry passed away on Jan. 15, 2002.

Jean was employed as the matron of the Maple Park Home in Vernon Center for thirteen years, retiring in 1987. She was formerly employed at the Smith-Lee Co. in Oneida for twelve years, and the former Agway Farm Store.

She was a former member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Sherrill and the Sunnyside Cemetery Working League. She was a volunteer for Madison County Office of the Aging and was a member of the Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group at Extended Care for many years.

Surviving are three sons, Wilbur Linton, of Oneida, Daniel (Kathy) Linton, of Murray, Kentucky, and Andrew (Cyndi) Linton, of Hagaman; two daughters, April Gates (Judith Tator), of Otego, Robin (Gary) Haddock, of Oneonta; ten grandchildren, Wilbur (Lori) Linton, Lawrence R. (Denise) Linton, II, Robert (Joy) Linton, Robert (Teresa) Gates, Sean Linton (Linda Guiliano), Heather (Aaron) Mathews, Christopher Haddock, Emily (David) Boss, Richard Linton, and Steven Linton (fiance, Andrea Indelicato); eighteen great-grandchildren; eleven great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Ardath "Susie" Orcutt. Jean was predeceased by three brothers, John Drake, Wilbur Drake, and Nelson Drake; and two sisters, Helena Drake, and Doris Frank.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., where the Rev. Robert B. Kolvik-Campbell will officiate. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida. Spring interment will take place in Sunnyside Cemetery in Merrillsville.
