Schenevus, NY - SCHENEVUS - Joan M. Carman, 92, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1933 in Rockville Center, the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Gerry) Carle.

Joan married David Carman on May 10, 1952 at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport. He predeceased her in 2019.

She moved to Schenevus from Freeport in 1988.

Joan drove school bus for the East Meadow School District and Schenevus Central School.

She loved to knit, sew, read, cook and bake.

Joan was a member of Schenevus Young at Heart, Schenevus Valley Grange, and Atonement Lutheran Church, Oneonta, where she was an altar care facilitator and sang in the choir for 32 years.

She is survived by her son James and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Jennifer, Timothy and John; sister, Ellen Dame; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her son Kenneth; sister, Virginia Owens; and brother-in-law, Arthur Carman.

A calling hour will be from noon to 1 p.m. and funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Paul Messner, officiating. Burial will follow in Schenevus Cemetery.
