John F. Morissette Sr.
OTEGO - John F. Morissette Sr., 76, longtime resident of Otego, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 29, 2020.
Born Sept. 22, 1943, in Danbury, Connecticut, he was the son of Ferdinand Morissette and Lucille DeWitt.
He was employed by Worthmore Feed, Bartlett Tree and Allied Van Lines in Connecticut before moving to New York, starting a family farm then expanding to a larger farm in Milford. He and the family settled in Otego, where he operated a contracting business and another family farm until his retirement.
John is survived by his children, Edward (Samantha) Morissette of Otego, Frank (Brenda) Morissette of Howes Cave and Miriam Rowland and Tammi Morissette of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Guy and Gary Haralson and Janet Goetz; along with cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Jennifer; mother, Lucille Haralson; two sons, John Jr. and Kenny Morissette; grandson, Jeffrey Morissette; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
John and Jenny enjoyed their winter home in Silver Springs, Florida and summers in Otego. He loved his family and friends and telling stories about his life. He enjoyed his grandkids, being outside doing things with his tractors, helping whoever he could. He loved going to casinos with his wife, eating the buffets and watching the shows.
We will love and miss you always and cherish all of the special times we shared with you, Dad.
Graveside services in West Oneonta Cemetery will be announced in the spring.
