SPENCER - John H. Reuter Jr., 83, of Spencer, formerly of Otego and Grand Gorge, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017.

John was born on Aug. 19, 1933, in Queens, the son of John H. Reuter Sr. and Johanna (Weber) Reuter.

John moved to Tannen Bach, the family dairy farm in Grand Gorge, with his parents and two sisters, Carol and Wilma, in 1948.

On June 2, 1962, John married Dorothy Gustin at St. Philip Neri in Grand Gorge.

John successfully farmed Tannen Bach Farm, with the help of his wife, Dorothy, and three children, Johanna, Michael and Christopher.

John served as a member of the Roxbury Central School District Board of Education during the mid to late 1980s.

After retiring from dairy farming in 1990, John worked several part-time jobs over the years - Agway in Stamford, Graham Laboratories (now Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals) in Hobart, Phoenix House in South Kortright and lastly, Carquest in Oneonta.

In August 1999, John and Dorothy moved to Otego, where they resided until April 2016, when they moved to Spencer to live with their son, Michael and his family.

John is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Johanna (Alexander) Orlowski, Valatie; and two sons, Michael (Cynthia) Reuter, Spencer and Christopher (Tracy) Reuter, Auburn; two sisters, Carol (Robert) Reamy, New Kent, Virginia and Wilma (Robert) Palmateer, Nashville, North Carolina; and 13 grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his infant son, Stephen, who died in 1963.

Rosary prayer services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.
