WORCESTER - John D. Wiedeman Jr., 81, passed away May 6, 2024, at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1942, in Oneonta, the son of John D. Wiedeman Sr. and Wanda (March) Wiedeman.
John enlisted and served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. He continued his military career with the United States Air Force in 1965 retiring in 1981. He obtained the rank of master sergeant. He was a pneudraulic instructor working on C130 aircraft. He was very proud of his military career serving in Vietnam, the Philippines, Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey and New York.
John enjoyed working on projects around his home, including his flowers and garden.
John and Jill were married Feb. 14, 1981, at Glencairn Garden, Rock Hill, South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Eve Wiedeman; children, Lisa, Brian (Beth) and Kelly; stepsons, Don (Linda) and Jeff; grandchildren, Alexis, Justin, Shaw, Reilly, Logan, Donald, Zachery and Sidney; brother, Donald (Ann) Wiedeman; half-brother, Jack (Joyce) Strope; brother-in-law, Mike Prystajko; and several nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved dog, Yuki and cat, Skeeter.
He was predeceased by his parents; stepson, Dwayne Ogden; two sisters, Judy Wiedeman and Linda Silak; and two brothers, Jimmy Wiedeman and Randy Wiedeman.
A special thank you goes to Helios Care and caregivers Maggie, Barbara and Joy for their caring compassion shown to John.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 12, at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 13, at the funeral home with the Rev. Judith Thistle officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will follow at 1 p.m. in Cairo Cemetery, 50 County Road 84, Cairo.
Donations may be made to a local animal shelter of one's choice.
