Oneonta, NY - Joseph S. Otvos, 79, passed away Feb. 19, 2026.

Born in Oneonta July 15, 1946, Joe was the son of Joseph F. and Mary (Broe) Otvos. He was a graduate of Oneonta High School's Class of 1966 and went on to earn an associate degree in accounting from SUNY Cobleskill.

Joe dedicated more than 30 years of service to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, where he worked as an auditor in Rochester.

In retirement, Joe found great enjoyment at his cabin on the lake in Cooperstown. He enjoyed spending time outdoors caring for the property, following the stock market, and cheering on the New York Giants.

Joe is survived by his sisters, Patricia Townsend and Ann Otvos; niece, Maura Buckley, and her husband, Sean; and their children, Bennett, Holden and Clara.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Peter Otvos; and his brother-in-law, Craig Townsend.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta. Interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery will take place at a later date.
