DAVENPORT CENTER - Karen R. Glance, 60, of Davenport Center, passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving family on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Karen was born on May 11, 1962, at Smith Hospital in Walton, daughter of the late Elinor F. Northrup. A stepdaughter of Arthur T. Neer, she was the youngest of five children.
Karen attended school in Walton but quit in the 10th grade as she decided that it wasn't for her. She later went on to get her GED in which she passed with flying colors. She attended SUNY Delhi where she earned a practical nursing degree.
Karen married the love of her life, Terry Glance, on Jan. 1, 2000, in Oneonta. Although Karen and Terry had no children of their own, they made sure all the nieces had Cinderella like gowns for their proms.
Karen's passion in life was working with people. Most of her life was spent as a public servant waiting on tables at many local eateries like Aiello's, Delhi Diner. Most recently, she opened TK's Diner in Davenport Center with her husband Terry by her side. Their diner became the hub of that area gaining many, many treasured friendships that are too numerous to mention.
In her spare time she enjoyed an occasional afternoon at Turning Stone Casino, scratch-off lottery tickets, crossword puzzles, and watching the Hallmark Channel, and also kicking up her heels to some good ole country music.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Terry; her treasured fur-babies, Cleo and Mr. Bigsley; sisters, Debbie Sherwood (Gary) of Laurens, Terri Green of Walton, Ellie Truman and friend Mark of Sidney Center; brother, Royce Green of Davenport Center; and her special niece, Trista Lindsley of Laurens who was also a caregiver to Karen. Karen also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Susan and Dick Hammill of Georgia; brother-in-law, Peter and Tee Glance in Thailand; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and aunts. She was predeceased by fur babies, Cupcake and Rocky; her mother, Elinor R. Northrup; maternal grandparents, Frank and Florence Northrup; paternal grandparents, Gladys and Byron Green; brother-in-law, Jim Truman; mother and father-in-law, Peter and Ruth Glance; special family friend, Arthur Neer; several aunts and uncles; cousin, David Northrup; and special classmates.
Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Feb. 25, at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where a memorial service will be held at noon with Lay Speaker Kaye Freling officiating. A celebration of life will be held following services at Walton Fire Department, 61 West St., Walton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the East Meredith Fire Department, 6192 County Highway 10, East Meredith, NY 13757, or Walton Fire Department, 61 West St. Walton, NY 13856.
