Kenneth Sickler Jr. Obituary

DAVENPORT - Kenneth Sickler Jr., 83, passed away Dec. 7, 2024 at Cooperstown Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1941 in Kingston, the son of Kenneth and Hazel (Buley) Sickler.

In his younger days, Ken was active with the YMCA. He was an accomplished swimmer and diver. He played youth baseball and softball and continued as an adult.

He was employed with the New York State Department of Transportation for 26 years retiring in 1996. After retirement, he began working full-time in his upholstery business. Many of his pieces may be found at local businesses and in the homes of his clients.

He was a member of the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee. Also, a member of the Davenport Senior Citizens. Ken was exceptionally incredible in the ways he interacted with his community and family. He looked forward to coffee with his friends at the Davenport Center Diner. He delivered Meals-on-Wheels. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and had many good times fishing with his son and grandsons. He most especially loved going to his grandchildren's ball games. Ken's smile could light up a room, and if that didn't work the candies he would pull out of his pocket to hand out would do the trick. He will be forever missed and forever loved while he continues to spread happiness and love from Heaven.

He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Elaine (MacLaury) Sickler; his children, Sharon and Keith Clute, Stacey and Dennis DeFreese, and Steve and Jennifer Sickler; his grandchildren, Dan and Lacey Clute, William and Rachel Clute, Zachary and Brittany DeFreese, Gabrielle Sickler, and her fiancé, Andy, Hypnarowski and Benjamin and Shelby Sickler; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as his brother-in-law, Roger Temple and sister-in-law, Lynn Sickler.

He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Ruth Temple, Mary Ellen, and Philip Gromoll and Donald Sickler.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to the start of the memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, 15673 State Highway 23, Davenport, with the Rev. Mary Jo Koehler, officiating.

Interment will be private in the North Kortright Cemetery at a later date.

Donations may be sent to the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 184, Davenport, NY 13570.

Online condolences may be made at, www.lhpfuneralhome.com; the website of Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
