DELHI - Laverne "Verne" Paul Hadley went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 29, 2022, due to a sudden heart attack. He was 65.

Verne was born on Oct. 2, 1956, to Cecil and Violet (Zindle) Hadley in Delhi, in the old hospital on Franklin Street.

He was raised in the Delhi area and graduated from Delaware Academy, where he played football and ran track.

He briefly served in the Army following high school. He worked at Broome Developmental for 30 plus years, as well as some other roles humbly serving others. During an ongoing battle with prostate cancer, he retired.

Verne was energetic and full of life. He loved to travel the globe, spend time with his family and friends, and was known by his nieces and nephews as the Super-Uncle and Dear Boy. He attended many sporting events, musicals and recitals. He never missed an opportunity to show support for and spend time with the younger relatives within his family. They loved their Uncle Verne. He also loved spending time with siblings and some very close friends at large family gatherings; playing cards on Friday and Saturday evenings; attending high school, college, and professional sporting events; and being helpful whenever an extra hand was needed for moving or fixing something or watching the house and pets. Verne had a large place in his heart for those less fortunate and was highly involved with the Special Olympics. He would think nothing of loading a van with clients and taking them to sporting events, movies, bowling, or just going out for ice cream.

Verne is survived by his mother, Violet of Delhi; brother, David (Donna) Hadley of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister, Mary (Michael) Brady of Delhi; sister, Esther (Paul) Baker of Delhi; brother, Philip (Donna) Hadley of Delhi; brother, Daniel Hadley of Phoenix, Arizona; cousin, James (Jill) Hadley of High Ridge, Missouri; brother, Timothy (Michelle) Hadley of Raleigh, North Carolina; brother, Jonathon (Wendy) Hadley of Delhi; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and Great Escape buddy, John.

He was predeceased by his father, Cecil Laverne; infant brother, Cecil Laverne Jr.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to a meal and time of sharing at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 5, at Delhi Community Church.

Calling hours will be at MacArthur Funeral Home in Delhi from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 6, at Delhi Community Church, with a graveside service to follow in Bovina Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
