Lois C. Brandow Obituary

FRANKLIN - Lois (Teenie) C. Brandow passed away peacefully at her home Nov. 23, 2024, with family beside her.

Born on Nov. 2, 1935, to Lloyd and Bertha (Pederson) Hartwell, Lois lived a life full of passion and dedication to her family and friends.

Lois married Edmund F. Brandow June 2, 1957 and together they shared many adventures until his passing in 2009. She was predeceased by her sister, Louise Robinson.

Lois is survived by her devoted daughters, Kim (Mike) Hyzer and Deb (Bill) Ebert, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Christopher (Rachel) Hyzer, Rebecca Hyzer, Michael S. Hyzer, Heather Ebert and Thomas (Brandi Lewis) Ebert and two great-granddaughters, Lauren Lazar and Ava Lazar.

A lifelong equestrian enthusiast, Lois purchased her first horse, Dan, as a teenager. Her love for horses led her to volunteer with 4-H for 30 years, co-founding the Franklin Light Brigade 4-H Club. She cherished her role in guiding young equestrians, taking them to the National Youth Equine Studies program in Kentucky for 16 years. Lois was secretary to the Open Horse Show at the Delaware County Fair for more than 20 years. Her fond memories of these experiences and the lasting friendships she formed, including with Jenn, Suneet, Nancy and Jeff, were a testament to her impact. When in Kentucky she visited John Henry, the famous Thoroughbred racing horse, whom she had eating out of her hand. Between all her years of being involved with 4-H and selling real estate she met a lot of interesting people.

Lois dedicated 26 years to Franklin Central School as business manager before working at Cooperative Extension and later as a real estate agent alongside Ed. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed numerous cruises with Ed. In recent years, she found joy in playing mahjong and cards with her dear friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at the home of Mike and Kim Hyzer.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Franklin Fire Department or Franklin Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 8, Franklin, NY 13775, or Ouleout Valley Cemetery, P.O. Box 62, Franklin.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home of Franklin, NY.
