ONEONTA - It is with great sadness announcing that Margaret Rose, 95, of St. James Manor in Oneonta, formally from Walton and Goodyear Lake, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, surrounded by her family, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Margaret was born in Johnson City on Jan. 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Anthony and Edith Field. On June 28, 1953, she married George Rose at the Margaretville United Methodist Church after he served his country proudly during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force.

Margaret completed high school in Owego at the age of 16 and immediately was accepted at Hartwick College, where she graduated and then completed her master's degree at SUCO. She was a beloved music teacher, guidance counselor, retiring from teaching in 1984, however never really stopped advising and counseling. She was not just a teacher, but a mentor and inspiration to her students. Her dedication to fostering creativity, discipline and a lifelong appreciation for music in her students will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Margaret was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was past Matron and the Plymouth Community Church. Margaret loved traveling, playing cards and spoiling her grandchildren where she was a frequent fan and supporter of their many athletic events, paying special attention to the youngest, Cody.

She never ran out of love and seemed to love all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids in a unique and special way.

Margaret is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: two sons, Scott (Lindee) Rose, Apex, North Carolina; Steven (Jacqlene) Rose, Sidney, one daughter, Jacquelyn Rose, Vermont; eight grandchildren, Jon (Cindy), Chris (Brooke), Billy (Nicole), Mandy, Tom (Megan), Matt (Ericka), Cody (Chelsea) and Keith; 11 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends Lori, Paul, Jered, Paula Jean, and Andy Foote, and John Edwards, not to forget the thousands of young men/women and kids she taught and counseled over the decades of public-school service in Margaretville, Downsville and Walton, her card playing friends and the coffee klatch group.
