SOUTH NEW BERLIN - Marie E. Broadbent, 92, of South New Berlin, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family and close friends.

She was born the daughter of the late Harry and Winifred (Northrup) Colyer in Norwich on May 29, 1931.

Marie was a masterful musician who taught herself to play the organ. She used that skill professionally as the organist at the South New Berlin Baptist Church from 1958 to 1968, and played the piano and organ for worship services and special occasions in Gilbertsville and other local churches, for more than 40 years. She sang in a barbershop quartet, gave piano lessons, and organized countless musical events.

Marie was a longtime member of Butternut Valley Grange in Gilbertsville and member of the Rebekahs in South New Berlin.

She was a dog lover, birdwatcher and source of much good for her community. Marie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving children, Butch (Dawn) Gage, Christine (Dean) Yelton and Allan Gage; stepdaughter, Mariane (Joseph) Arria; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marie was predeceased by her first husband, Donald R. Gage, second husband, Ernest "Bud" Broadbent; sisters, Beverly Wright, Naomi Burt and Patricia Kuhn; and daughter-in-law, Maryellen Gage.

Family and friends are invited to visitation hours from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 18, at First Presbyterian Church, 113 Marion Ave., Gilbertsville. Her funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation. Marie will be buried in Riverside Cemetery in South New Berlin in the spring.

Marie's family has entrusted her care to Edd Stanimer of Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris.
