Oneonta, NY - ONEONTA - Marion Ruth Royce, 91, of Oneonta and formerly of Morris, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, surrounded by love. Marion was born in Cooperstown June 2, 1934, to the late Walter and Edith (Krebser) Haggerty.

On March 23, 1961, Marion married the love of her life, William Royce. Together they shared a devoted and joyful marriage that spanned more than five decades, until William's passing in 2017. Their life together was built on faith, kindness and deep love for family and community.

Marion attended the Morris Methodist Church early on and later was a devoted member of Lightwalkers Baptist Church, whom her husband, William Royce founded. She was widely known throughout the community for her thoughtful gestures—sending food, cards and words of encouragement to lift others during difficult times. Her kindness was quiet but constant, and many felt comforted by her caring heart.

Marion's greatest passion was her flower gardens, which she lovingly tended and took great pride in. She also enjoyed reading and was an avid walker, continuing her daily walks even through the winter months. Above all else, Marion cherished her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose thoughtfulness, generosity and compassion touched everyone who knew her.

Marion is survived by her loving children: Valerie Birdsall (Larry), Dale Gregory (Kellee), and Cheryl Ernst (Douglas); her cherished grandchildren, Sabra DePaulo (Vince), Seth Birdsall, Jay Gregory (Melissa), Josh Gregory (Anne), Erica Morat (Steve), Melinda Gregory (Carlos), Shane Collison, Kimberly Collison (Thomas), Margaret Ernst and Samuel Ernst; 12 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ken Haggerty. In addition to her beloved husband William, Marion was predeceased by her son, Jess Gregory.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Morris United Methodist Church, 17 Church St., Morris, with Certified Lay Minister Penny Harrington officiating. Following the service, Marion will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
