HOBART - Marjorie Belle Berriker VanValkenburg, 89, of Hobart, passed away at her home on Friday evening, Dec. 4, 2020.
Margie was born on Aug. 10, 1931, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Raymond Evans and Anna Harner Berriker.
She was married on Nov. 26, 1949, to Roger Leroy VanValkenburg in Douglassville, Pennsylvania. The union lasted 52 years until Roger's passing on Oct. 5, 2002.
Margie and Roger moved their family to Hobart, in 1955. They bought their farm in Harpersfield in 1962 and raised their five children and a grandson there. The couple then moved back to Hobart in the 1980's. Margie was a familiar face there, working in Meagley's Pharmacy, the Hearthstone, and later at MacArthur's Store.
Margie was a talented musician and artist. She began playing organ at Temple Methodist Church in Douglassville, Pennsylvania, at the age of 13 and continued in New York as organist at the United Methodist Church in Hobart for more than 60 years. She also enjoyed painting and was known for her Landscapes in Oil by Margie.
Besides her parents and her husband, Margie was predeceased by her brother, R. Calvin Berriker; niece, Lori Ann Kochu; and son-in-law, Michael A. Jacobs.
She is survived by her sister, Marlyn Berriker Moore of Phoenixville, Pennslvania; children, Connie VanValkenburg of Selkirk, Donna Jacobs of Jefferson, Mary Beth (B. Robert) Joel of Tupper Lake, Patricia (Gary Krueger) VanValkenburg of Selkirk, and Roger Ray (Kristen) VanValkenburg of Dundee; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; devoted little companion, Puffy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held at Hobart United Methodist Church followed by burial in Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later time and date.
