HARTWICK - Marjorie L. Eldred, 73, passed away March 3, 2025 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She was born Dec. 16, 1951 in Herkimer, the daughter of David J. Morse and Doris I. (Bluett) Morse.
A graduate of Milford Central School, she worked for Opportunities for Otsego and Head Start, and for several other area employers over her lifetime. She grew up on her family's farm, which she loved, and was very involved in its operation. She was a former member of the Hinman Hollow Grange where she had attained the 5th degree, and she enjoyed volunteering at the local food bank and visiting and helping others when she could.
Marjorie married Donald A. Eldred Oct. 1, 1977. They had celebrated their 40th anniversary and had worked together on their family farm for 36 years. She raised and named all the calves and was proud to be able to continue the line of red and white Holsteins that her dad had started. She enjoyed many hours working in the fields and the beautiful views, occasionally pausing to take it all in. After retirement, she and her husband were able to build a cabin on the property which had been in Don's family since 1912.
Marj loved four-wheeling, snowmobiling, tending her flowers and simply being out in nature. She enjoyed taking numerous bus trips with her son, Ryan. She loved to shop for bargains and save her family money, always using coupons and looking for the "best buy."
Marj is survived by her daughter, Tammy of Oneonta; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Chuck Atwell of Milford; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband; son, Ryan; parents; sister, Sandra Hovey; and many aunts and uncles.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 21 at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown. At 5 p.m. an informal gathering with refreshments will be held at the First Baptist Church in Hartwick. Graveside services will be held in the spring.
For those who so desire, donations in Marj's memory be made to the Milford Fire Department, 64 S. Main St., Milford, NY 13807 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Mayfield, VA 22116.
