FUQUAY VARINA, N.C. - Marjorie "Marge" Bernice (McLean) (Herrschaft) Snyder, 85, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2017, following a long and courageous battle with Post-Polio Syndrome.

She was predeceased by her parents, Willard McLean and Ella May Southworth; her first husband, Arthur Michael Herrschaft; her siblings Nelson, Ermal, Lyle, Kenneth, Norman, Beulah, Edna, Clyde, Columbine, Alberta, Albeama, Gladys, Arnold, Leonard and Wanda.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Snyder; sister, Betty; her children, Cynthia (Steve), Michael, Charlene (Nate), Cherryl (Randy), Coreen (Mike), Claudette (Kerry); her stepchildren, Debra (Allan), Ralph Jr. (Donna) and their two sons; her grandchildren, Melanie (Lou), Franklin (Thea), Cassie, Kurt (Jackie), Craig, Joshua, Mindie (Jeremy) Michael (Cara), Shaun, Rebecca, Skye; great-grandchildren, Bridgette, Jennifer, Alyse, Amelia, Mason, Michael and Bryce; and many, many, nieces and nephews.

She was born on Christmas Day in 1931 in Hartwick, where she lived and met her first husband.

After their marriage they relocated to Long Island, where she raised her family. She eventually started a career at Hazeltine in Huntington.

After the sudden death of her first husband in January 1976, she married Ralph in 1981.

Years later they retired and moved to Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, where she enjoyed gardening, traveling and many family gatherings at their new home; with a highlight being the wedding of her granddaughter on their beautiful landscaped grounds.

She was a passionate conservative who loved America with all her heart and soul. She was also a passionate New York Mets fan who couldn't wait for each new season to start. She was also an avid reader, Tom Clancy being her very favorite author. But there was nothing she loved more than her family.

Her most treasured memories were those she made with family. She loved the fun of cooking and preparing her home for the holidays. She loved calling and talking to her children and planning for upcoming visits. She loved making trips to attend the special events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including weddings, graduations, birthdays and baptisms. Some of her most treasured memories included two trips to Hawaii with her husband, a five week cross country trip with two of her daughters in an RV; her surprise 80th birthday celebration at the Turning Stone Casino in upstate New York; her annual trip to Myrtle Beach with her daughters and granddaughter and her bi-annual visits from her son during Christmas and summer vacation. These were just a few of her most treasured memories. She loved giving more than receiving, unless she was at a casino and a "one armed bandit" machine was giving her back some of her fun money.

During her final days, she was surrounded by all of her children and her husband. Her family will receive family and friends at Delker & Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St. Edmeston, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at the Garrattsville United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Piedmonte officiating. Interment will be in Hartwick Cemetery in the spring. Immediately following the service family and friends will gather at the Garrattsville Town Hall to share stories and celebrate her life.
