Marlena E. Card Obituary
UNADILLA - Marlena Card passed away Aug. 14, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Angela.
She was born in Unadilla on Dec. 6, 1944, the only child of Stanley Herron and Laura Haynes.
She attended Unadilla school, then married Robert Barton. Together, they had four children. They later divorced and she married Bill Card. Together, they had one son, Matthew William.
Marlena worked at Fay's, Rite Aid, and Walmart as a pharmacy technician.
She was extremely proud of her children, loyal to her friends, and loved animals more than people. She had many animal friends that brought her tremendous joy. Marlena loved the holidays, Elvis, baking, horses, and anything spiritual.
She is survived by her children, Angela (Chuck) Drobneck of Guilford, Cynthia (Michael) Hall of Unadilla, Joseph (Evelyn) Barton of Gouverneur, Robert (Meagan) Barton Jr. of Sidney, and Matthew (Marnie) Card of Vernon Center; stepdaughter, Kim (Jonathan) White of North Carolina; and her Shih Tzu, Tori. Marlena had 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother, Laura in 2002; and husband, Bill, in 2020.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18, at the Unadilla Center United Methodist Church, 1203 Butternut Road, Unadilla, with the Rev. John Buddle officiating. There will be no calling hours. She requested people dress casually and wear pink if possible. Burial will follow in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, where she will be reunited with her soulmate Bill. Marlene didn't want people to mourn her because she is going to her forever home where there will be no pain or sorrow. "Grieve for me then go on with your lives."
The family thanks Fox Nursing Home, Chase Rehabilitation and Chenango County Hospice for her care.
