HOBART - Mary Peters Betz, 89, of Hobart, passed away on Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, 2020, at her home.
Mary was born in Hobart on May 10, 1930, to H. Victor Peters and L. Benedicta Mattice Peters.
She married Charles Betz in Hobart in September of 1954.
She is survived by her children, Joanne Harrington, David Betz and James Betz (Lorraine Ziek); granddaughter, Liahna Harrington Cole (Chris); as well as great-grandchildren, Ethen, Chance, Kyle, Kyan, Cayden, Eleanora and Liam.
Mrs. Betz was predeceased by her husband, Charlie; and grandson, Nathaniel (Niel) in 1998. She was also predeceased by her siblings, brother, L. Donald Peters; and sisters, Frances Davis and Janette Stevens.
Mary most recently worked at the Hobart bookstores. She was a board of elections inspector and a member of Stamford Town Planning Board. She previously worked as a secretary at South Kortright School and as clerk and treasurer for the Village of Hobart for many years.
She was involved in the Hobart Civic Association and the Hobart Historical Association.
Mrs. Betz was a devoted member of the Locust Hill Cemetery Association.
She also loved reading and music.
Mary shared many good times with her lifetime friend and neighbor, Doris Clark.
Her family thanks everyone from Helios (Hospice) Care, Kaatskill Eldercare and AM/PM Care for their kind help during the last weeks.
A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
