Richfield Springs, New York - RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Maxine Althea Armstrong, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1929, in Binghamton, daughter of the late Harold W. and Esther O. (Wandell) Congdon.
She was raised in Richfield Springs and attended Richfield Springs High School until 11th grade.
Maxine will always be remembered as lady with a true sense of community. She held memberships in many clubs and organizations.
She also owned and operated Maxine's Restaurant from 1972 to 1978.
Mrs. Armstrong had a strong belief in God and was a member of Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. In her leisure time you could always find her walking around the village for exercise. A wonderful lady who was kind, caring and helpful, she will be truly missed.
She is survived by two sons, Harold M. Armstrong of Guilderland and Kenneth W. Armstrong and his wife, Gloria of Ormond Beach, Florida; five daughters, Bonnie L. Starr of New Castle, Colorado, Sandra K. Maxson and her husband, Tom of Richfield Springs, Joan M. Ames and her husband, Greg of Cassville, Patricia L. Ray and her husband, David "Scott" of Arlington, Texas, and Brenda Jo Elmer of Utica; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins, Louise and Michael Velasco Jr.
Mrs. Armstrong's family will receive callers from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, in the church hall at Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. Members of Arbutus Chapter 201, Order of the Eastern Star, will gather for their ritual service at 10:45 a.m. at the church. A funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Casey Bradley, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.
